On November the 14th Professor Merab Beridze, Acting Rector of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University hosted Jeff Reneau, Public Affairs Officer at United State Embassy in Georgia. The meeting took place in an official environment and had an introductory character. Jeff Reneau expressed the gratitude towards the Acting Rector for the meeting and for hosting “Education USA” in Samtskhe-Javakheti State University. “Education USA” functions in the frames of the Center for International Education which is situated in Samtskhe-Javakheti State University.

Public Affairs Officer admitted that he is especially interested in cooperating with the higher educational institutions in Georgia and added that “Education USA” should play the role of liaison between the universities and the USA.

Professor Merab Beridze noted that United States Embassy in Georgia and Samtskhe-Javakheti has been cooperating for a long time already. The University has taken part in some of the projects financed by the Embassy and for the last three years hosted volunteers of Fulbright programme.

After the official part Jeff Reneau met the professors and students of English Philology Programme and visited the American Study Center.

On October 18th, 2017 Samtskhe-Javakheti State University hosted the NGO Caucasus Youth Nexus holding another youth event in Akhaltsikhe. The event covered two workshops for the University students about the social entrepreneurship and its promotion within Europe. According to Giorgi Azariashvili, the President of Caucasus Youth Nexus, during the workshops participants share the best practices of social entrepreneurship and work out together the methods to improve these practices.

During the event, the representatives of the NGO made a presentation about Erasmus+ and the opportunities it gives to the students.

The event was held in the frameworks of Erasmus+ project implemented by the NGO Caucasus Youth Nexus with European partners.

From October the 9th  to 11th Samtskhe-Javakheti State University Choreographic Ensemble “Akhaltsikhe” was on a tour in the Republic of Turkey. The Ensemble was invited at the Scientific Congress “Caucasus and Caucasus Culture” organized by the Faculty of Conservatory and Art of Kars Caucasus University. The Choreographic Ensemble “Akhaltsikhe” took part in the concert held in the framework of the Congress. The guests from Iran and Ankara also participated in the concert. The Ensemble “Akhaltsikhe” has earned appreciation and Samson and Lia Menabdishvili, the Heads of the Ensemble were granted a symbolic souvenir by the Congress emblem.

On June the 20th, 2017 a debate on the topic - “The involvement of young people in the discussion of the constitution is justified" was held in Pavle Zazadze Conference Hall of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University. The debate was organized by “Georgian Institute for Debate and Education” in the framework of the project “Youth Club Network of Debates” which is supported by the President’s Reserve Fund.

Public debates are one of the activities carried out among students across Georgia which initiate public discussions about the different problematic and important topics. The current topic was chosen due to its actuality among students and the representatives of the society.

Associate Professor Maka Kachkachishvili-Beridze, Deputy Rector in the Scientific Affairs opened the event. Participants of the project were greeted by Maia Melikidze, the Advisor to the President of Georgia in Economic Issues. Tinatin Tsertsvadze, Director of Georgian Institute for Debate and Education made a presentation about the project.

Two teams participated in the debate: affirmative and negative. Each team was represented by three speakers. At the end, the debate was evaluated by Sophio Vepkhvadze, trainer and head of programmes of Georgian Institute for Debate and Education. Negative team won the debate.

The event was attended by the staff of the President’s Administration, teachers and professors from the university, students, journalists and active members of the society. 

On June the 2nd, 2017  Samtskhe-Javakheti State University hosted Professor Vladimer Kikilashvili, Doctor of Philology, caucasiologist and the member of Public Library. Vladimer Kikilashvili conducted a presentation about the multi-profile e-journal about the Caucasus - “Caucasus, Nature and People” to the audience at the university scientific library. He spoke about the specificities and importance of the journal. The future cooperation with the professor was planned during the meeting.

On May the 31st, 2017 a meeting with Avtandil Butkhashvili, a poet, writer, famous public figure was held at Pavle Zazadze Conference Hall of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University. Prof. Merab Beridze, Rector of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University opened the meeting and presented to the audience the following honored guests – Mr. Avtandil and his wife Lali Khornauli, Marika Kvaliashvili, a composer, Davit Shemoqmedeli, a poet and a chairman of Rustaveli Society and Vladimer Sarishvili, a poet, journalist and member of Committee of Rustaveli Society. At the end of his presentation Rector awarded Mr. Avtandil with the Diploma of Honor. Associate Professor Maia Kukchishvili spoke about the life and career of a poet. By the decision of the Committee of Rustaveli Society, a branch of a Society will be opened at Samtskhe-Javakheti State University and it will be headed by Associate Professor Maka Kachkachishvili-Beridze, Deputy Rector in Scientific Affairs. In his presentation Avtandil Butkhashvili thanked the university governing bodies. He spoke about his life and creativity. A composer Marika Kvaliashvili, Vladimer Zedginidze, a Mayor of Akhaltsikhe and the representatives of Akhaltsikhe Municipality greeted the audience at the end of the meeting.

The Students Scientific Conference of Business Administration Faculty of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University  will  be held on May the 30th, 2017. 

Venue of the Conference: Samtskhe-Javakheti State University, II Buidling, Pavle Zazadze Conference Hall. The Conference will work in two sessions: session #1 - Pavlze Zazadze Conference Hall and session #2 - Room 208. 

The summing up session will be held at 17:00 where the students will be awarded with certificates. 

Economic Policy Expert Center organizes student Olympiad in economics.
First, second, third and fourth year bachelor’s students from any faculty of Georgian universities will take part in the competition. English language sector will also be working at the Olympiad and citizens of foreign countries who study on bachelors’ programs in Georgia can also participate.
Winners will be awarded financial and nonfinancial prizes: 1st place - 1000 GEL; 2nd place - 700 GEL; 3rd place - 500 GEL; 4th place - 400 GEL; 5th place - 300 GEL.

UNESCO has declared year of 2016 as the year of the Georgian Poem – “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin”. On this occasion Smatskhe-Javakheti State University has organized the event on November 24, 2016 at the Scientific Library. The event was dedicated to the 850 anniversary of the poem.

The head of the Scientific Library, Associate Professor Lali Beridze opened the event and the organizer of the event, Professor Nestan Sulava spoke about the value and importance of the poem. She, also highlighted that 850 anniversary of “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” should have been celebrated in Georgia in accordance to the value of the poem. However, the initiative of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University in this regard is welcomed.

The students of Georgian Philology programme have presented their reports about the poem and read the parts of it in Georgian and Armenian languages. 

The event was initiated by both, the Scientific Library and Literature Room and with the support of Public Relations Office of the University. 

University of Lodz in Poland has announced application submission for the Exchange Programme “Direct Mobility”. To apply for the programme students:

-          must have good command of English;

-         must be at least on the third semester of their studies at the home university;
