History of the Library

Samtskhe-Javakheti State University Library has been operating since 1990. It was established on the base of the richest book depositories and collections including unique Brockhaus and Efron encyclopedias published in XIX-XX donated by different scientific institutions and individuals. The book depository has been constantly replenished and updated. Today the University scientific library unites book depositories of I and II buildings, sectoral literature preserved in English, German, French, Armenian, Turkish, Greek and Georgian study rooms. In total approximately, 40 000 bibliographic and digital units. The library is provided with audio-video cassettes and compact disks and also, receives periodicals.
Reading rooms separated with book depositories are equipped with modern computers and free internet access in both buildings of the University. Reading rooms include free to access literature.
The service in the library broadens systematically. The electronic catalog “Openbiblio” makes it easy for readers to search the information.
The scientific library has been the member of Georgian Library Association since 2010, collaborates with international library networks and organizations, is the member of consortium of “Electronic Information for Libraries – EIFL” and benefits with different electronic databases. From 2012, the library began creating its own electronic resources which are accessible only for the students of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University.
